Top Three

Thursday’s Top Three (TTT #031)

As part of this series, I’m sharing the Top Three articles I’ve read over the prior week with you all every Thursday.

The articles that are featured can either be fresh or selected from other blogs’ archives. The only rule to be included in the collection is that it’s an article that I’ve read in that particular week.

Generally, I try to select pieces that made me think about something from a new perspective or that emotionally spoke to me. I hope you’ll enjoy them as much as I did!

Here are this week’s TTT:

Steve Bertoni from General Atlantic on a billionaire going broke for charity
What a great story! This article is more than a year old, but it is absolutely worth reading. Chuck Feeney, a former billionaire, spent more than 40 years giving away all of his money to a number of charities, and last year he finally went broke. If I could name one life goal, this comes pretty close. An inspiration! Hat tip to Joel from Budgets are Sexy whose link I followed to find this gem.

Aaron from Mr Stingy on gambling vs. investing
What is the difference between gambling and investing, and where exactly is the line? When I first got started with crypto, I called it a speculation rather than an investment, so I have definitely asked myself this question before. Aaron’s article is a reflection on probabilities, risk, balance, as well as some of the more well-known storylines in 2021 that fell more on the gambling side of things. At the end, he sums it up quite well: “If you’re not sure if you’re actually gambling or investing, you’re probably gambling.”

Frogdancer Jones from Burning Desire for FIRE on the little things
Frogdancer Jones’ blog is one of the more personal blogs in the FI space. Her style of writing always make me feel cozy on the inside, and the little adventures as well as larger trips she goes on are nice to follow along from afar. This article is not about anything large, instead, it is about the little things that make retirement pleasant for her. Mainly, that is time freedom. And I can so relate. One of the big motivators for my pursuit of FI is gaining time freedom, so that I do not have to limit or even worry about the time that I spend on pleasurable activities. I look forward to reaching that some day and salute Frogdancer Jones on having reached her destination!

Do YOU want to be featured? Have you written an article that I absolutely must read?
Let me know about it, and I’ll consider including it in the next TTT.
